An alanine aminotransferase (ALT) also known as Serum Glutamine Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) test measures the amount of this enzyme in the blood. It is measured to the check the liver damage or liver disease. It is normal to have low levels of ALT in the blood. But during damage or disease ALT levels go up in a bloodstream. Most increases in ALT levels are caused by liver damage. The ALT test is often combined with other tests such as aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and bilirubin. The Serum Glutamine Pyruvic Transaminase ( SGPT) test is done to: Identify liver disease, such as cirrhosis and hepatitis. Check for Liver damage. Check for Jaundice caused by a blood disorder or liver disease. Test Unit U/L. Technology/Methodology Photometry/ IFCC*without pyridoxal phosphate activation. Instrument Used OLYMPUS.
